Today, the vast majority remain in operation, many with their original owners (or their successor railroads), and examples can be found both across North America, and on railroads as far afield as Panama, Brazil, North Africa, and Australia.
Details on the SD40-2 Type Locomotive
Designed for a wide variety of mainline and industrial roles, they are powered by a 3,000HP 16-cylinder EMD 16-645-E3 Prime mover. One distinctive spotting feature, when compared against other similar EMD locomotives, is their longer than average end platforms.
This Bachmann SD40-2 features realistic, prototypical detail, and comes ready for operation with Soundtraxx® Sound Value DCC and sound.
